- Per quanti non ne fossero
a conoscenza, l'Øresund Bridge è un ponte che unisce la Svezia
e la Danimarca ed è considerata un'opera pubblica di grande importanza
per gli scambi commerciali tra i due Paesi scandinavi. Consultando il sito
della società che gestisce questa struttura, ho anche scoperto che
nel corso del 2005 il traffico è aumentato del 13,7%, incremento
dovuto - chissà - probabilmente al fatto che dall'aprile del 2004
alcuni musicisti danesi e svedesi hanno attraversato questo ponte con cadenza
più o meno mensile per incontrarsi a turno a Malmö ed a København
per improvvisare lunghe jam al'insegna dello space-rock psichedelico variamente
contaminato. Da quando cioè sono nati gli Øresund Space Collective,
un vero e proprio collettivo apparentemente aperto a qualsiasi collaborazione,
tanto che al nucleo base composto da membri di Mantric Muse, Gas Giant e
Bland Bladen si sono occasionalmente aggregati anche componenti degli ottimi
Carpet Knights e dei Sgt. Sunshine.
Questo disco raccoglie proprio i frutti più succosi maturati nel
corso delle jam citate sopra, sette composizioni strumentali di durata media
decisamente elevata, accuratamente selezionate e registrate in maniera professionale.
L'introduzione è affidata alla liquida "Faked It All The Way",
un brano un po' troppo evanescente, ma che in verità ha il solo scopo
di sintonizzare l'ascoltatore sulla giusta lunghezza d'onda. Già
con la successiva "Consumed By The Goblin" comincia a sprigionarsi
tutto il potenziale del gruppo: immaginate gli Ozric Tentacles con meno
chitarra e meno distorta, con meno effetti sonori strambi ma senza rinunciare
alle contaminazioni orientaleggianti e reggae caratteristiche del gruppo
inflese. È puro Space-rock, ben suonato e che ricalca alla perfezione
gli stilemi del genere che impongono atmosfere spaziali ed ipnotiche, ritmo,
effetti elettronici e tanto groove, senza che la noia riesca mai ad avere
la meglio; le tastiere ed i sintetizzatori contribuiscono anche attivamente
e non solo nella creazione delle atmosfere spaziali, la chitarra si produce
in ottimi e prolungati assoli. Infine non va dimenticata l'ottima prova
di Søren, batterista dallo stile pulito e mai banale.
"Falling Stardrops" e "Moonhead" tolgono il fiato, sono
escursioni sonore ipnotizzanti ed allucinogene come lo erano i Porcupine
Tree di "Voyage 34" mentre la conclusiva "Sundown" è
forse l'unico episodio un po' fine a se stesso.
In chiusura segnalo che il gruppo sembra sostenere la politica della libera
condivisione: infatti sul loro sito (www.oresundspacecollective.com)
potete liberamente scaricare più di 30 ore di sessioni che la band
ha effettuato nell'ultimo anno. La qualità sonora degli mp3 è
buona ma non eccellente, per cui ritengo che la vostra conoscenza del gruppo
debba obbligatoriamente passare attraverso l'acquisto di questo bel dischetto.

Bridge links Sweden and Denmark and it's rightly considered as a so important
public service for the commercial exchanges between the two scandinavian
countries. Maybe you're not interested about it, but I will tell you even
more: on the Øresund Bridge website I read the traffic on the bridge
increased of about the 13,7% last year and I think to know the reason why.
Since the first months of 2004, some danish and swedish musicians have been
crossing the bridge in turns to meet themselves in Malmo and København
and improvise long space/psychedelic-rock jams. The Øresund Space
Collective was just born this way, formed by members of Mantric Muse, Gas
Giant and Bland Bladen with occasional contributions of Carpet Knights and
Sgt. Sunshine musicians.
This eponymous album just picks up the most juicy fruits matured during
those several jam sessions, seven instrumental long tracks very well recorded.
"Faked It All The Way" is nothing more than an atmospheric introduction
but the following "Consumed By The Goblin" starts to show the
great potential of the band. Try to imagine Ozric Tentacles with less distorted
guitar parts and less sound effects but with the same oriental echoes and
reggae influence. That's pure Space-rock, very well played, full of hypnotic
rhythms and groove.
"Falling Stardrops" and "Moonhead" will take your breath
away with adventurous sound trips in the vein of the "Voyage 34"
by Porcupine Tree. The ending track "Sundown" is maybe the most
unuseful, with few interesting ideas to show.
Finally, the band seems to agree the file sharing : infact you can download
for free tons of jams directly from their own web site (www.oresundspacecollective.com).
The Mp3 quality is good but not excellent, so I think your OSC's knowledge
should pass through the purchase of this very good cd.
The "Øresund Space Trip" has just begun: please, fasten
your seat belts and free your mind !!
